This is not your typical trip to the Bahamas! In the region around the capital city of Nassau, thousands of Haitian refugees have ventured here to make a new start. With no money, no jobs, and no homes, they attempt to build a life. The Bahamian government is unable to provide much help to this growing population, and the need for education and housing is enormous. Mission Discovery short term mission trip teams will help construct churches and daycare facilities, repair homes, and lead children’s bible school in poor Bahamian and Haitian communities.

Mission Discovery’s Spring short term mission trip in Guatemala is a unique experience. Spend your spring break in the beautiful town of Antigua, Guatemala. The spring project consists of two main elements: Learning and Serving. Each day you will hear about the Guatemalan culture and learn Spanish one on one with a Guatemalan teacher at the Christian Spanish Academy. Afternoon service options include volunteering with community missionaries serving the poor in Antigua. You may roof a home, paint a school, install wood stoves, or deliver food baskets to needy families.

The town of is nestled between towering boulders and miles of scrub brush. This mountainous setting is home to many needy families, but it is often overlooked for help because of its size and location. Thousands come to Tecate with the hope of finding more opportunities in the US or near the boarder. Hardworking people find jobs in the tourist or manufacturing sectors, but even then the average salary ranges from only $4-$5 a day, causing many diligent workers to live in abject poverty.

On the border that separates South Africa from Sawziland is the community of Bulembu. Once a thriving mining town, Bulembu was abandoned in 2000 along with its hospital and 1200 homes. Kevin Ward, director of Teen Challenge Swaziland, purchased the town and has a grand vision: To renovate as many homes as necessary to house 2,000 children orphaned by the AIDS pandemic of Swaziland, teach AIDS awareness, and have a self-sustaining community through the start-up of various cottage industry initiatives.

Eden is a small village set back in the hills and rainforests of Jamaica. In this tiny town, the Jamaican Christian School for the Deaf ministers to hearing impaired and special needs children whose families could not otherwise afford such excellent attention and care. Over a decade ago, Honduras suffered its greatest disaster when rains from Hurricane Mitch caused landslides and floods that killed thousands and destroyed virtually every bridge in the country. An estimated 2 million people, approximately 40% of the entire population of Tegucigalpa, were left homeless. After a decade, relief efforts have slowed, but there is still tremendous need for food, medical supplies, construction materials, clothing, and restored hope.

One hour south of Memphis is Clarksdale, Mississippi. Situated in the heart of the Mississippi Delta, Clarksdale is home to residents living in very difficult circumstances. Your team is needed to help meet the physical and spiritual needs of Clarksdale’s poorest individuals. There are many opportunities to do home repair projects that will dramatically improve the quality of resident’s lives.

Native Americans have the highest rates of poverty, unemployment and disease of any ethnic group in the United States. South Dakota’s Lakota Indian population lives in some of the poorest communities in the US. Rapid City is home to thousands of Lakota Indians who have moved from the Pine Ridge Reservation in search of a better life. Your Mission Discovery short term mission trip team will reach out to many Native American families, but we will not exclude anyone who has a need that we can meet.

Tucked away in the southwestern corner of the state, the rural town is rich in history, but like much of the Appalachian area has faced hard times. Residents there take pride in their quality of life, but like so many places in our nation, this community is home to people in real need. Your team is needed to help meet the physical and spiritual needs of Appalachian residents. There are many opportunities for your group to do home repair projects that will dramatically imporve a family's quality of life.

As a child, living on the Navajo Reservation, you stand a better than 90% chance of being sexually abused. In 1985, Linda Russell, founded North American Outreach Ministries, Inc. (NAOMI) to rescue children who had been abused, provide education to social workers, and create a loving environment where children can live safely and without fear of abuse. In the town of Joseph City, Arizona, Linda established NAOMI House to do just that. Your Mission Discovery short term mission trip team is invited to come and serve at the home.

On January 12th, 2010 Haiti was rocked by a magnitude 7.0 earthquake. The capital city of Port-au-Prince and the surrounding communities and cities to the south and south west were devastated.  While the world came quickly to the aide of Haiti, long term solutions for the poorest nation in the western hemesphere have been slow.

Music City USA is a place where hope lives and dies. It's a great place to live, work, and visit, but like all thriving cities, there are people in need.  Away from the glitz and glamour of Music Row, 13% of residents live below the poverty line.  Nashville's poor are the focus of your week with Mission Discovery. Though a partnership with UCP, Mission Discovery works to build wheelchair ramps for residents earning less than $15,000 annually. For many it's their first shot in a very long time at personal freedom.

Projects can include building new dorms and classrooms, teaching a class for deaf children, creating safe play areas for the children, or building/repairing perimeter fences.

Guatemala is a beautiful country in Central America that is roughly the size of the state of Tennessee. Behind the walls and in many small cities lie unbelievable poverty and families living in desperate conditions. With Mission Discovery, and in partnership with local ministries, you can take your senior high team to serve the poor in Guatemala. There short term mission teams will serve the poor by repairing homes for families. Teams could also minister spiritually through Children's Bible School and delivering food baskets to the needy families.

In the heart of the Navajo Reservation is the town of Cottonwood, AZ. Economic hardship and health problems are common with the residents in this area. Your team is needed to work alongside Pastor Danny Begaye to reach out to the people of Cottonwood. You will meet the needs first hand as you repair homes and lead a Children's Bible School program. You might also have an opportunity to support Pastor Begaye's ministry through church construction projects. A trip to Cottonwood will give your team a new perspective on God's love as you take part in His plan for the Navajo Nation.

Like many towns on the Navajo Reservation, the people of Hardrock, AZ are experiencing difficult economic times. They have little hope of the situation improving, and most times the residents feel as though they are a forgotten people. God is calling His followers to come alongside the families in this area to minister to their physical and spiritual needs. Your group will partner with the Navajo Gospel Mission. This center provides aid to families from both the Navajo Reservation and the nearby Hopi Reservation. Your team is needed to repair homes and conduct a Children's Bible School.

In the Eastern region of Peru, along the bank of the Ucayali River, is the city of Pucallpa. Villagers from the surrounding jungle move to the city in search of better living conditions. The population has steadily grown to over 600,000, but 70% remain unemployed. This is an area with much need. Mission Discovery, in a partnership with Off the Trail Missions, will be ministering to the people of Pucallpa and surrounding villages. Through feeding programs, medical efforts, and construction projects, your Mission Discovery short term mission team will meet the most basic of needs.

There is a small community just outside Bungoma, in the northwestern part of Kenya. The children of the district are in dire straits. Many of these children are orphans and lack even the basic needs like a roof over their heads. Conditions are so bad that most families in this area are too poor to send their children to school or afford meals on a regular basis.
